Exploring Door County - Part 5

After heading out from the lavender farm, our next stop was at Mountain Park  Lookout Tower just a few miles down the road.

It was a little bit of a trek up a lot of stairs to the top of the hill, then a few more steps up to the top of the tower.

But there was a pretty darn good view from the top!

Too bad it was so smokey and hazy, otherwise they say you can see for miles and miles out over the water from this spot.

We were getting a little toasty in the warm sun, so decided our next order of business would be to find a beach to chill out for a while.

I had seen a few good sounding options in the book, so we decided to check out School House Beach, as it seemed to be a popular choice.

The parking situation was so interesting, it was basically a "find a spot in the trees" kind of situation. But very pretty, and nice and cool in the shade.

After a little stroll through the trees, we stepped out on to one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. The water was absolutely pristine and the white rock bottom added to the clean clarity of it all.

The water was totally clear, you could barely tell where it even began.

The temperature was perfect and so we all decided to go for a dip.

I started up a conversation with some people on the beach about where they rented their paddle boards. The woman explained that they were really expensive, and we should just take theirs out for a while and make good use of them. Since they had just gotten back from riding on them for several hours and were worn out. We were all pretty excited to give them a spin.

Tia and I had a great time paddling around, and neither of us even fell off! ;p haha

We were all getting pretty hungry after our busy day or walking and swimming. So drove around to find some lunch. A popular spot, and a great choice according to our book, was the Albatross Drive-In.

It was very popular indeed, as we stood and waited in line for quite a while.

They had tons of tasty options and we all had a really hard time deciding what to get. But their prices were really goo, so decided to get a little assortment of goodies ;)

Though we had to wait in line a while, our food came super fast and was totally worth the wait!

I got cheese curds and this delicious Mushroom and Swiss burger, which definitely did not disappoint.

After gorging on our delicious lunch, we went over to a little gift shop down the street to check it out and get some post cards and things like that.

Grass roof!

We stopped at a couple more beaches on our way back towards the ferry pick up, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and cool breeze coming in off the water.

What more can you ask for than a tranquil spot on the water to sit and watch the birds swim and waves crash up on the shore.

We made a couple more stops on our way around the island, including driving down a road to find basically a homeless lady and her "horse farm" when trying to find an Icelandic Horse Farm  mentioned in a brochure... that was an adventure. haha...

But the sun was going down and the last ferry was leaving soon, so we decided to head back to the mainland.

Once we got back to land, we decided to drive down to the park in Ellison Bay where we had been at the night before and watch the sunset.

It was totally beautiful and I had a blast walking around taking in every inch of this butterfly garden.

Seriously, this is my happy place.

I also made best friends with this happy little monarch. It hung out with me for quite a while.

Can you even ask for a better place to take an evening stroll??

After spending all the time I wished with my butterfly friend, I went and sat in the hammock with Tia until the mosquitoes started driving us crazy and we called it a night.

We went back home and made some supper, then went back out to the dock in Gills Rock and watched some more meteors till we couldn't stay awake any longer.

It was an absolutely wonderful day :)
