Exploring Door County - Part 4

Hello all, I know it has been forever since I posted anything. Due to an insane schedule and computer troubles, causing me to a be MIA for a while. But here I am ready to wrap up the details of our awesome trip to Door County, WI last summer and excited to share some more adventures with you all.
The second official day of our time in Door County, August 12th, was spent on Washington Island. Where we were staying in Gills Rock, was pretty much across the street from where the ferry rides were. We waited in line for a few minutes and then were on our way!

They load the cars up on the lower deck and all the people get to ride up top, with an awesome view.

It is about a 30-minute ride from the Northport Pier in Gills Rock, around Plumb Island to Washington Island.

It was a perfect day for a boat ride :)

Plum Island lighthouse.

Sadly, it was another smokey day and so our view was damped by that, it was worse on the Island than it had been on the mainland.

Some tourists waved at us all as they floated by.

Not sure what all this is out on the peninsula of Detroit Island, but it sure looks cool doesn't it?

We saw a lot of these double-crested cormorants on the ride.

After the estimated half-hour ride had passed, we arrive on Washington Island excited to explore.

I had brought the Door County book from the cottage, so between that and the maps given to us at the ferry ticket booth we had a lot of ideas of things to do for the day.

Considering the entire island is only 35-miles across, we knew we would be able to get to everything if we used our time wisely.

Our first stop was at Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm right in the center of the island. Being a major flower and lavender lover, this was a for sure stop on my list.

Oh and did I mention butterfly lover :D

We went in through the shop to get to the lavender fields and were blown away by all the cool things they had for sale--all lavender themed of course.

After looking around inside for a while we ventured out back to see the fields for ourselves.

We got to get up close and personal to a lot of butterflies and bees, haha.

We had a great time wandering around the rows looking at the lavender and little critters.

Had to take some cliche photos too, obviously ;p

After going back inside we caved and bought some overpriced lavender lemonade, but boy was it the most delicious lemonade I have ever had!

Our next stop was the Mountain Park  Lookout Tower a few miles down the road, but more on that in the next post :)
