Canada & Beyond - Day 2

We were lulled to sleep that first evening (Aug. 13th) by the sound of the very nearby waves of Lake Superior crashing up on the shoreline. So naturally the first thing all of us wanted to do that morning was to go check it out! We walked down the narrow little path through the woods and saw the gorgeous view we all had been hoping for.

The sun coming up over the tree line added such a peacefulness to the whole scene. Was one of those places you really just didn't want to leave or ever forget.

Early morning sleepy eyed selfies are just the best ;p haha

After a while we decided we better get on the road and head towards our next destination, so made our way back down the little path to our campsite.

We got the tents put away, the car all packed up, and hit the road.

When you arrive somewhere at night, it's always so neat to see what it all looks like in the daylight. It is sort of this, whoa sooo this is where we are, kind of feeling. We definitely had that as we got on the highway and started driving.

Lots and lots of hills.....

After much searching we finally discovered the Yellow Brick Road!! Isn't it exciting ;) hehe

My favorite thing about the drive that day was cresting the top of a huge hill to see incredible views of the lake, the cliffs jutting up both sides of the road, and the bluffs surrounding it all... Was just amazing.

Around noon we decided to pull off at a scenic picnic area and make some lunch. Thankfully this time it wasn't raining ;p

Doesn't get much better than this does it?

The other girls all enjoyed wading through the shallow water on the beach, while I just took pictures of yellow flowers and such... Then we made a tasty lunch and got back on the road.

Say that three times fast

Finally got a decent picture of their cool road signs, see the crown on top of the highway number. We spent pretty much the entire trip to PEI on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Superior Coastal Highlands, you better believe it!

Later that afternoon we were all ready to get out and walk around for a bit, and also still needed to trade in some of our US cash for CAD the Canadian currency. So when we saw bill boards for this place advertising free currency trade we decided to give it a try. They were able to help us with the money, some ice for the cooler, a jug of water, and some ice cream, (which was obviously pretty necessary to our survival).

All the things you never knew about Sault Ste. Marie.

One thing the US and Canada have in common... it doesn't take long at all to find some hay bales once you get out of a big city haha

We were all pretty intrigued by the names of these towns.

Welcome to Spanish!

I'm not sure anyone was listening to the sign.... Or I don't understand what dumping means haha.

We were trying to make it past Sudbury to North Bay, Ontario by 9pm so we could get to our planned campground before their office closed as they had requested. But with all the road work we ran into off and on all day it really slowed us down, and we just weren't able to do it. Sooo we sadly had to breakdown and find a hotel for the night after searching for other campgrounds in the area with no luck. But thankfully Faith works for a hotel chain and was able to get us a terrific deal on one. More on that experience in the next post. :)
