Exploring Door County - Part 6

We decided to spend our next day exploring more of the southern end of Door County. On August 13th we got up early and drove down the scenic highway through all the cute little towns along the route.

One of the places we stopped was the Seaquist Orchards Farm Market in Sister Bay.

We had a great time looking around and trying all their tasty food samples of jellies, dips, baked goods and so much more.

After driving through a lot of cute little towns we made our way to the Cana Island Lighthouse and decided to do the lighthouse tour on the island.

To get to the island you had to either walk through the shallow water or ride this cute little tractor trailer across. On the way there we opted for a ride.

Once we got going we realized the water was only like a foot or two deep, and we'd probably gotten there faster if we walked ;p But it was a fun little ride all the same.

Once we arrived on the little island, we got our tickets and took off down the dirt path towards the lighthouse.

It was a cute little place surrounded by trees, totally tucked away and you'd never even realize it was there if you were looking at it from the shore. (Other than the lighthouse tower itself of course)

We went inside and found out it was going to be a little while before it was our groups turn to go up into the lighthouse, so we went back outside to explore a little bit down by the water.

It was another smokey/hazy day, so there wasn't much of a view. But the breeze and fresh water on our feet felt wonderful.

We made our way back up to the lighthouse and decided to look around in the house portion of the building.

It was all staged for historical accuracy and really need to see it all and learn more about its history.

How the Fresnel lens was born.

After about an hour of waiting, it was finally our turn to go up into the tower.

The steps were really narrow and steep, it was a bit of a crowded walk for 15 people to climb up.

The view at the top was oh so worth the wait and the climb!

We stayed at the top for 15 minutes or so, before making our way back down. The tour guide talked to us all about more of the lighthouse operations and history as we went.

After walking around the island and taking everything in, we started the walk back to the mainland.

It was a very refreshing walk, the sand was soft as long as you didn't step on any of the sharp broken shells along the way! haha

If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend going and checking this place out, it was worth every penny!
