Southern Travels - Part 3

Finally getting around to finishing up the story about my trip down south, thanks for being patient my loyal followers!
On Oct. 8th, we got up bright and early and started making our way up to North Carolina, towards the Eastern continental divide.
It was so a gorgeous, curvy, and hilly drive!

There was a bike race along the road we were driving on, they are very brave bikers taking on those hills!

As we made our way higher into the mountains it began to look a little more like fall, it was so pretty!

Finally got out of the thick foliage covered highways and out in to the open and caught a glimpse of a very tree covered mountain.

Talk about narrow right?!

We were following the GPS heading towards Whitewater Falls, and it lead us down this one lane, gravel back road.... It was quite the adventure climbing up and down the hills in our little rental car! We were very glad we didn't run in to any on coming traffic, there definitely would have been no where to go ;p

After a while we finally made it back to a main road, and a few minutes later arrived at Whitewater Falls.

It was a nice short walk up to the falls.

At the top of the hill we stopped to take in the most amazing view of Lake Jocassee, and the Appalachians.

It totally took my breath away...

A little bit further down the trail we came upon the falls, they were spectacular!

Lots of pictures later, we started making our way back down the trail.

After some lunch we got back on the road, next stop Stumphouse Tunnel, near Walhalla.

On our way back down the mountains we got to see more of that incredible view.

We made it to Stumphouse tunnel with only like 15-20 minutes before they closed up for the night, so we jogged up to the tunnel asap. You can read the sign above to learn some about the story behind the tunnel.

We came across this about half way down the tunnel, it was a little creepy to say the least ;p

At the end of the tunnel there was this "shoot" of sorts that went straight up, some water was making its way through too.

We met up with some friends in Atlanta later that night, and went to Stone Mountain and saw a super fun laser show.

We went back to our friends house near Atlanta that night and enjoyed sitting up talking, eating chocolate and left over Krispy Kreme donuts ;)

Sadly Sunday morning, Oct. 9th came around and we had to head home :( We got up nice and early and headed towards the airport. It was a very rushed morning, but we made it on the flight just in time!

The plane landed in Minneapolis right on time, Tia's parents came and picked us up around noon. Then we headed over to the Mall of America and met up with my friends Julia, and Faith, who were giving me a ride home.

We did some shopping, got some coffee, and then Tia and I said our goodbyes, and had to head our separate ways around 3 or 4pm. It was so fun having her along for all the many adventures ;)

Nathan came and picked me up at Julia's house at 9:30, and we were finally reunited! ;)

I got up Monday morning and made myself some tasty coffee in my fancy Bolt Farm cup. It was such a fun trip, I had a total blast with great friends, saw some amazing places, and got to experience a lot of awesome new things! But I must admit that it was also good to be home after a very busy week! ;)

Thanks for following me along my travels, which one of these places would you like to go someday?
