Canada & Beyond - Day 11

Crawling out of our tents on August 23rd, we discovered we were right next to a large lake, which we hadn't even realized the night before.

It was a gorgeous morning with a lovely view.

We had to get Tia to the airport early that morning, so we got on the road as soon as possible.

We said goodbye to our lovely campsite and started heading out of the conservation area.

We arrived at the London airport right on time and said our goodbyes to Tia. It was so fun having her along for the majority of our travels!

Since we got on the road nice and early we didn't have time to have breakfast. So we made our way into town and found this cute little coffee shop.

Very unique wall art don't ya think?
We got back on the road and started making our way towards Michigan!

We got to the border crossing around 10:30am.

To get back into the US we had cross the bridge over the St. Clair River and overlooking Lake Huron.

At first things were moving along just fine and we were making pretty good time...

After about ten minutes the traffic began getting bad on the bridge, people got impatient, and started pulling into lanes they weren't supposed to... causing it to only get worse.

We ended up moving along at a snails pace, so got to really take in the view. But were all really ready to get off that bridge!

A blade to a windmill.

All in all it took over 2 hours to cross the bridge and reach the border crossing.

At long last we finally were in Michigan!

Our next couple of hours were spent driving through some beautiful countryside as we made our way to the town of Frankenmuth.

My family visited Frankenmuth when I was younger, and I remembered it being a cool town with lots of neat little shops and a killer cheese store. So I was excited to see it again and show it off to the others.

It looked like it was about to rain as we pulled into town, but thankfully it held off for us!

This cute little town is known for its Bavarian-style architecture and shops highlighting the area’s German roots.

Behold the glorious cheese haus!!!

They have such a huge variety and you can try any of them that you please!

After spending quite a while with the cheese and making some purchases, we moved on to the rest of the town.

The Bavarian Inn inspired us ;P We also went inside and checked out the cool stores they had down below the restaurant.

I just love these purple Norway Maple trees!

At the taffy shop we each got some to bring home for our families as a special treat :)

After a couple hours we decided we better get back on the road, since we still had several hours to go before reaching our destination for the night.

Our next stop was Mackinac City and Bridge!

It was a beautiful evening and we drove through some simply breathtaking countryside!

We arrived right as the sun was setting, so we got to see the bridge in daylight and after dark!

It is a magnificent structure!

We paid our toll and took an exit to find a place where we could stop and get some good pictures of the whole bridge.

After a few wrong turns we finally found this Bridge View Park, and it was perfect!

I was able to prop my camera up on a bench and get some nice photos of the pretty lights!

It was getting pretty chilly so we went inside this little visitors center to warm up and use their restrooms before heading out on the last leg to the campground.

In keeping with our usual trend, we got to our campsite at Manistique Lakeshore Campground fairly late and all pretty worn out, after not getting much sleep the night before (or any of the previous 10 or so ;p). So we crawled right into our tents and crashed.

The next post will be about the final leg of our journey, thanks for following along all these months!
