The Journey of June - Part 5

On Tuesday morning, June 26th, Nathan and I packed up camp and went down to the southern entrance of Yosemite to see what there was to see, which was not much :p Then we all started making our way to Kings Canyon National Park to meet up with the rest of the family.

We made it there around 6:00 pm and got camp set up pretty quickly.

We were able to share a site with Nathan's family, and were right next to his other family was camped too, grandparents, Charles and Nan, uncle Brian, aunt Crystal, and cousin Jacob. So we were just one big happy family ;) It was so fun getting to see everyone again! Although we didn't get see Brian and Crystal just yet, as they had taken off the day before on a 3.5 day hike of 48 miles across a portion of Kings Canyon!

The next morning we all kind of went out separate ways. Kaitlyn had to get back to work, so Blake took her to the airport in Fresno to fly home. Charles, Nan and Jacob went to Hume lake to go swimming. So Nathan and I took Melissa, Mikaela, Cristen, and Amanda for a little drive, dropped Melissa off at Hume to go swimming with the others and we brought the girls with us to explore a little.

We ended up at the location of the General Grant Tree, just down the road from Hume Lake. It was a 1/2 mile loop hike around a bunch of very large Sequoia trees, about 15-20 of them were pointed out and named in a trail guide as we walked around the loop.

Towards the end of the trail was a fallen tree you could actually walk through!

After that we went and checked out the Grant Village visitors center and gift shop, then started to make the gorgeous drive back to camp. Kings Canyon definitely has some winding roads and incredible mountain views!

We were only a couple miles from camp when we saw a little sign on the side of the road for Grizzly Falls, so we turned in to check it out! Boy were we happy with what we found, a beautiful spout of water shooting off the edge of a cliff sending a cool mist to everyone standing in its path. It felt so refreshing on that very hot day!

Everyone got right up close and enjoyed walking around in the shallow water and feeling the watery spray.

After getting all cooled off we got back to camp, and everyone was all back together so we had some supper. Then by that time were all pretty warm again, so decided to go play around in the cool water of the river flowing across the road from where we were camped. We passed the time by building some cool little rock towers, we had a good time with it ;)

It started to get dark so we went back to camp and sat around the campfire visiting and enjoying ourselves. It was nice to be able to just sit around and relax with Nathan's side of the family once again after so long.
