On Wednesday, May 9th, we got up early, checked out of our hotel, and got on the road with several locations in mine that we wanted to explore on the outskirts of Thunder Bay.
Of all the places we discovered along our trip, Kakabeka Falls was one of our very favorites.
It was a foggy morning and raining off and on, so once we got to Kakabeka, we threw our jackets on and went down to find the waterfall.
The rain made everything glisten and look crisp and fresh.
The waterfall was simply gorgeous! Probably one of my favorites I've ever seen.
There wasn't a soul in the entire park from what we could tell, so we enjoyed walking around the platform getting all the shots of the falls we wanted without anyone obstructing our view ;)
The gorge at the end of the falls was also really beautiful, the fog added to the moodiness of it all.
After a while we decided to cross the bridge and see if the visitors center was by chance open, so made our way back down the path to the car.
We both agreed that this was a super fancy building for a bathroom!
Read this plaque to learn more about Kakbeka and some history surrounding it. |
Sadly the store was closed, and there was no one around. So we just walked around a little bit and took in the falls from this side of the gorge.
Isn't it just breathtaking?!
I know not everyone would love to hike around in the rain. But personally I think it's one of the best times to photograph nature, especially waterfalls.
We really enjoyed our time spent at Kakabeka, I would love to go back again one day soon! If you're ever in this neck of the woods, don't miss out on stopping by this beautiful park, it's only about 15 minutes outside of Thunder Bay, and totally worth the trip :)
Our next stop was at Devils Kettle Falls once we crossed back in to Minnesota, so make sure you subscribe so you don't miss my next post!
