Our next stop along the Cabot Trail on August 20th, was at Black Brook Beach. One of our favorite places the entire trip. It was magnificent and tranquil all at the same time. We spent at least an hour or more walking on that soft sand and climbing on the surrounding rocks.
At long last this was our first time to be at the actual open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the open water we had seen before this point were coves, gulfs, bays... etc. It was amazing to finally be standing in front of the real thing and feel the spray of the ocean on our faces.
It was overcast, and a little windy so we thought it would maybe be too chilly for walking in the water. But it was actually a lot warmer temperature than we thought it would be!
We were glad it was windy though, because it was causing some epic waves to crash up on the shoreline. Which was just beautiful!
Nathan was kind enough to take some great photos of us girls in our matching shirts, which we had purchased while we were in Charlottetown on PEI.
Maybe he is missing his calling in life and should be a portrait photographer ;p
Can't leave the beach without a classic footprints in the sand picture ;)
Once we had spent a while on the beach, we went over to the cliff side to check out the waterfall which we had heard flows right into the ocean.
Behold!
While the others climbed around, I perched my self on a rock with a fantastic view of the waves crashing up on the cliffs. This scene reminded me so much of parts of the North Shore of Lake Superior, back home.
The sun came out in full force, and the scenery took on a whole new look. It was all just so incredible!
I decided to go further up on the shore and check out the drift wood and large rocks up closer to the trees.
They were all so perfectly round. Reminded me of Pebble Beach in Splitrock Lighthouse State Park, on the north shore. So much of this area just felt like it could have been right at home in Minnesota. It's pretty neat to drive thousands of miles, and still find something that feels like home :)
The way the water was curving around this rock, was making such cool designs in the sand. Look closely!
Figured we needed some pictures of Nathan too, since he took so many great ones of us girls ;)
While Nathan and I were trekking around the beach, the others had made their way to the top of the waterfall!
Of course Nathan scrambled up to the top in like a minute, no problem. Rock jumper that he is ;)
Canadian National Parks, put these red chairs throughout their parks and have people post pictures of them sitting in them on social media, and people have to guess where they are. Pretty cool idea!
Julia did some more sand art for us on the beach.
Had to get the classic couples shot, and the #basicwhitegirl barefoot on the beach shot, before heading out! ;p haha
It was just so beautiful! Of all the places we visited along this whole trip, I have to say this was definitely the hardest for me to leave. I hope to be back there someday soon!!
Alas, we had to leave and move on to the next beautiful place along this incredible journey. Thank you for taking the time to view this entire post and all the many photos, you're awesome!
The next post will contain the final portion of our drive on the Cabot Trail and Cape Breton Island. Make sure you don't miss it!
