We awoke on Day 12 of our trip pretty exhausted and ready to get to Missouri and just sleep, for a long, long time. We got on the road early and didn't waste any time in Amarillo, because we were anxious to get to Stillwater, OK to meet up with some friends that afternoon.
I was so excited when we walked out of the hotel that morning and my most favorite dream truck was sitting right outside. I thought about just jumping in and driving away... but decided against it ;p |
We only drove through Texas for about an hour and a half before reaching Oklahoma. And it was pretty cloudy and foggy for most of it, so we didn't see much of Texas on this trip... but we weren't too depressed, seeing as Nathan grew up there and this was not the first time I'd been to this area of the state.
It was super foggy like this, and sometimes worse, for over an hour... it was pretty bad. |
The thing I have always found so fascinating about Oklahoma is how extremely red their soil is... It is very, very red...
We saw some of the coolest clouds that day... |
And I mean REALLY cool clouds. |
The weather that day was allll over the place. We were on the run from some bad storms west and south of us, we (well me especially) were really glad we were heading northeast, that's for sure!
Then on top of the crazy weather, we ran into a looooott of road work that day as well. It made a five hour drive more like seven... It was frustrating, but mostly just because we were both so very tired after barely getting any sleep the three nights previous.
This was quite the sight, road work and cattle, not something you see in the same frame all the time ;) |
We were soooo happy when we reached Stillwater, north of Oklahoma City, and met up with our good friends Tim & Bethany Olinger and their little guy Asher, and were able to spend a couple hours with them at a local coffee house there. It was nice to take a breather and enjoy some awesome company... and coffee ;)
After saying our goodbyes, we made a quick stop at Walmart before it was totally dark and grabbed a few necessities for the weekend ahead.
We still had about four hours to go before we reached my Aunt Mel's house in Nevada, MO. We finally got there around midnight, and got to bed about 1:30am after visiting with my cousin AJ who I hadn't seen in several years. We slept soooo well, it was wonderful to be able to sleep in and take it easy the next morning and not have to get back on the road again for a while.
We had an enjoyable time that weekend with family, my aunt got married on the 18th, then we went down to AR, for my brothers wedding on the 21st, then drove up to Omaha and stayed there for four days for our friends wedding the 26th! It was a pretty crazy week. We arrived home in the evening on April 27th. We had such an amazing time in our three and a half week journey, but were also happy to be home again at long last.
